Clinically proven
to reduce oxidative stress.

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES
Oxidative Stress and Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to the class of diseases that involve the heart and/or blood vessels. The cardiovascular system consists of three anatomical components: the autonomic nervous system, the heart, and the vasculature. These three components interact in a complex manner to control blood flow to organs throughout the body.  CVD is usually used to refer to those related to atherosclerosis (arterial disease). There is compelling evidence that oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathophysiology of several major cardiovascular diseases.  The relationship between oxidative stress parameters and inflammatory species suggest their strong mutual involvement in atherosclerosis development. Levels of oxidative DNA damage are elevated in the serum and myocardium of patients with heart failure.

About Cardiovascular Disease
  • The #1 cause of death in the United States.
  • Affects more than 79 million Americans (1 in 4)
  • Since 1900, cardiovascular disease has been the leading cause of death in every year except 1918.
  • About every minute, one American will die from a cardiovascular disease.
  • The number one killer of women.
  • In 57 percent of men and 64 percent of women who died suddenly from cardiovascular disease, there were no previous symptoms.
  • The good news! From 1994 to 2004 the death rate from cardiovascular disease declined 33 percent.
Risk Factors
  • The more risk factors you have, the greater your chance of developing cardiovascular disease.
  • Also, the greater the level of each risk factor, the greater the risk.
  • Age. Over 83% of people who die of cardiovascular disease are 65 or older.
  • Male. Men have a greater risk of heart attack than women, and they have attacks earlier in life.
  • Menopause. After menopause, women’s death rate from heart disease increases.
  • Heredity. Children of parents with this disease are more likely to develop it themselves.
  • African Americans have a higher risk of the disease due to more severe high blood pressure. Risk is also higher among Mexican Americans, American Indians, native Hawaiians, and some Asian Americans.
  • Tobacco smoke. Smoker’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease is 2 – 4 times that of non-smokers.
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Physical inactivity
  • Obesity and overweight. Especially those individuals who have a lot of excess body fat around the waist.
  • Diabetes
  • Stress
  • Alcohol, which can raise blood pressure, cause heart failure, and lead to stroke.
  • High oxidative stress
Risk Reducers
  • Regular exercise
  • Quit smoking
  • Keep blood pressure low
  • Enjoy a healthful diet
  • Maintain a desirable weight
  • Lower your cholesterol
  • Aspirin. Daily use of aspirin has been shown to lower the risk of heart attack, clot-related strokes, and other blood flow problems. However, there may be risks associated with long-term aspirin use, so one should definitely consult with a physician before taking aspirin daily.

About Protandim®
Protandim is a powerful, patented daily supplement that dramatically boosts your body's own natural defenses against free radical damage, a leading cause of oxidative stress.

At this time, there is no evidence that Protandim can treat, cure, or prevent cardiovascular diseases, but we do know its positive impact on oxidative stress.  Because of the known link between cardiovascular diseases and oxidative stress, you may want to begin by lowering your oxidative stress, which Protandim is proven to do.
