The benefits of Protandim are not only how you will feel but what you may not experience physically as a result of managing your free radical levels. What a great advance in science. - Granite Bay, CA
The difference between Science and Science Fiction.
Free radicals are a normal product of your body’s metabolism; the body produces its own antioxidants (for example, the enzyme superoxide dismutase) to keep a healthy cellular balance. But what we encounter every day in life threatens that balance. Stress, environmental factors and the normal process of aging add to the number of free radicals roaming in our bodies. These free radicals wreak havoc on our bodies on a continual basis. Such damage is associated with changes that accompany aging.
Proof Protandim Works
The Scientific Evidence showing Protandim works is based on clinical study results (see clinical results) using a TBARS (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances) measurement, which tracks the damage to cell membranes from oxidative stress. This damage is caused by free radicals that are produced by our own metabolic processes, and naturally increases as we age. Increased TBARS also occurs as a result of obesity, strenuous exercise and lifestyle choices not conducive to good health, such as a high fat diet.
Elevated TBARS is not uncommon in adults and indicates a need for additional antioxidant capacity in the body.
In the clinical study with men and women taking Protandim for 30 days, a 40 percent average decrease in TBARS was reported, and maintained for 120 days when Protandim was taken every day. Additionally, Protandim significantly increased activity of SOD and CAT antioxidant enzymes by 30 percent and 54 percent respectively, substantially increasing the body’s antioxidant defenses.
Unprecedented Antioxidant Protection
Antioxidants are celebrated because of their amazing work inside the cell, where they are so effective in helping the body protect itself from free radicals. But what’s the actual benefit of an antioxidant?
An antioxidant is defined as a molecule that reacts with cell-damaging oxidants (also know as free radicals) to neutralize them. There are two types of antioxidants, and they function very differently. The two types are:
|
• “consumable” antioxidants in supplements and foods we ingest (such as Vitamins A, C and E) • “catalytic” antioxidant enzymes produced within our cells called Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) |
Conventional antioxidant supplements (such as vitamins A, C and E) are known as “consumable” antioxidants because they are immediately used up as they eliminate free radicals on a one-to-one basis. Protandim works differently to provide antioxidant benefits - it inspires the body to protect itself from free radicals on a continual basis because the enzymes are not used up each time they help to eliminate a free radical.
