What Does Your Face Cream Contain?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

In the world of anti-aging, it is easy to get conned by marketers and false advertising. What really makes us look younger? Is there anything that really works? Can anything be worth the money? Some of the most pushed products on the market are face creams that are said to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and make women look years younger using special collagen ingredients. In order to make sure dollars go well spent, it is important to research which ones work.

It is also important to keep in mind that every face is different. They have different textures, genetics, and varying amounts of sun exposure. Because of these differences, what works for one person may not work for another. But there are certain aspects in creams that help to treat all skin effectively.

First, great anti-aging creams all have SPF sun blocking agents in their mixtures. This is one of the most important aspects of any good cream, because it helps fend off harmful rays that can lead to skin damage and cancer. When the skin becomes damaged, it looks older and winkles and lines begin to form. Applying a cream that includes SPF daily is a must for more youthful looking skin.

Another characteristic of great creams are those that include vitamins and minerals that actually repair the face to make it look younger. Vitamins A and C in creams work to fix the damage that comes with aging and add a proactive nature to any cream. These vitamins and minerals can make skin look younger by treating it from the inside out.

These are two specific, yet simple, categories that have been proven to make skin look younger and more resilient. Many creams do not include either of these and use fillers instead. These types are not worth your money, as they have no active ingredients. Check labels for these things, and read reviews to see what women are saying about their success with these products. Good, effective products are out there, it just taking some looking.

Studies Say Young Women Should Avoid Anti-Aging Surgeries

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Studies have shown that some procedures used to rejuvenate the face were found to have similar effects on the face as UV rays. UV rays are harmful and have been linked to cancer. With the chances of getting skin cancer already so high in the younger population, exposing them to harmful rays early on in their lives will only increase those chances.

The procedures referred to include Botox and wrinkle reduction surgeries. New information suggests that older women are no longer the only people getting Botox and wrinkle reduction, procedures usually reserved for those women age 40+, but young women are now getting them as well. Why? The motivation seems to be that these young people want to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines before they start.

Some health experts will suggest that these procedures are not advisable in most women, especially those who are doing it as preventative measures. Instead, healthier preventative measures include wearing sunscreen and sun-protective clothing, drinking plenty of water, eating healthy, and getting eight hours of sleep.

Lies About Wrinkles… What The Cosmetics Companies Tell You

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Anti-wrinkle creams seem to be at the top of the list when talking about anti-aging. Older women are the target audience for all of the ads and campaigns surrounding wrinkle reduction. What is interesting is that companies will tell women anything to get them to buy their creams and lotions, when in reality wrinkles are caused by genetics, too much sun exposure, and even by what you put (or don’t put) in your body, such as healthy foods.

There are websites and articles telling women that if they do certain things they can reduce their chances of getting wrinkles on their faces. Such recommendations include, “Don’t read in bed or look down at a computer because these cause neck wrinkles and double chins…” and “Don’t frown or squint.” These things may reduce chances of getting lines but probably don’t make a huge impact.

What is more important than buying into all of these false statements is to make sure you are healthy from the inside out, not the other way around. Eat healthy, get plenty of vitamins and antioxidants, wear sunscreen, get your eight hours of sleep, and drink plenty of water. Then, if a wrinkle or two still pop up because of your genetics, embrace them. Wrinkles used to be a sign of wisdom and knowledge.
